Spent the day doing not-a-whole-lot. Found 2K in missing checks buried under other crap on my desk. I really should do something about the state of my desk. (They were personal money, not business money. I do a lot better with business money than I do with personal money.) And, well, they'd only been missing two weeks or so. It wasn't like an urgent state of missing checks. I also marked off my good payers for November -- everyone's given me money, so that's good.

Following that spot o' finance, I returned home (帰ました!) and watched Zatoichi, which gets my vote for best samurai film ending with a huge ensemble tap number. Even discounting people in kimonos doing modern tap steps (way, way funnier than it ought to be), it was really a quite enjoyable film. Zatoichi was a fun movie, not only for the cross-dressing (Bonus! With shota scene!) and the arterial spray (Always a plus. I cannot think of a single film containing arterial spray that was not enhanced by its presence.) but also for the blue 招き猫 (beckoning cat -- statue of a cat with one paw raised, frequently seen in Japanese shops for good luck. It's a thing.) in the bar and the antique farm implements in the fields and the nearly naked samurai wannabe running around with a flag taped to his back and the fact that I can now tell when the assorted gang guys are being all rude and shit from their grammar, pronouns, and verb endings. (Go me!) Also, samurai-era hairstyles (as seen in the movies) fascinate me. The delightful percussive thread running through the movie, which I knew about in advance from [livejournal.com profile] not_your_real, made me think of Stomp, like maybe the score person had gone to see that the week before and still had it stuck in his head.

Also, and this is probably only interesting to me, Tadanobu Asano is the ronin guy who fights for the bad guys in the movie. We've seen him before as the delightful blond fuck in Ichi the Killer. So pretty! He's still pretty. I cannot imagine why [livejournal.com profile] not_your_real did not mention this as an item of interest except that possibly (a) she doesn't think he's a hottie or (b) she's not seen Ichi the Killer and has no interest in so doing. But anyway, he's the ronin guy in this film and still a hottie. So yay!

Hey, hey! Just thought I'd let you know that there are some long-awaited iris bulbes coming your way. I let them spread out a little more through the summer and picked off some of the newer offshoots for you. It should all be the yellow-and-orange irises, as they are only growing in one place in the yard--by the northwest downspout. Let me know when they get there. I hope they transplant nicely.

On the actual topic of your post, that film sounds like it was really quite cool. The tapdance number sounds beyond peculiar.

I have not seen Ichi the Killer and, from vague memories of an earlier review, will probably pass on it due to amount of arterial spray, or something :)

Oh, cool! The weather here isn't terrible yet, so I can probably get them settled before the dead of winter. Here's hoping they make it -- they really were pretty when you took pictures of them last spring. And, well, you've got my I. psuedocoras out there -- we'll have to take pictures of the survivors come springtime. :)
