Nov. 12th, 2005 09:35 pmToday we have several things for your amusement. Yes, in addition to the fine fisking you already got from me today. This is extra-credit posting.
Today I dewormed horses with Trysta. We did twenty-seven horses: Chelsea, Eikon, Whisper, Whimsy, Thyme, Mariah, Kova, Sassafrass, Briar's grey filly, Chenille, Vanity, the app mare, the app colt, Absolut, Coquette, Nick, Elklin, Goldrush, Ceres, Mezcal, that pinto from Julie's, Briar's paint filly, Bacardi, Taku, Witch, Tai, and Casper. Tomorrow we need to do Skoal, Briar, Cooler, and the stuff over at Odie's (including Meat). We also need to rope in Theron to hold down the colts-of-this-year, some of which are pretty untouched by human hands. And there will also be delousing (of the horses), which is way less fun than it sounds.
After we dewormed horses (I am sneakier and faster with the syringes than Trysta is so I got to do the problem horses) we stopped and chatted with Russ, who'd been out hunting with his grandsons (9 and 11) for squirrel season. In my world, seeing prepubescent boys with guns isn't particularly unusual. They were pretty happy because they'd gotten a few squirrels and were going home to stew and eat 'em. The way I see it, shooting and eating squirrels is educational, gets kids out in the fresh air and sunshine, and is probably no worse, on the whole, than PlayStation.
After that, Trys and I went to Crawford's Museum so that Trys could buy something for Cass's birthday. (Cass is nine.) I had never been in Crawford's when it was a museum so this trip was my first exposure to the place. It is currently a roadside gift shop with large taxidermified animals amongst the merchandise. (They're left over from the museum phase of its lifespan.) The general effect was kind of bizarre. Fortunately for all ya'll, I had my digital camera along. Yes, I did.

On the way to and from Crawford's, Trys played some german metal band music in her car. It doesn't really matter what you sing in german, it all sounds mean... but she assured me that this particular song was about... riding horses. Mmmm-hmm. About riding horses. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more. It was catchy, anyway. Google assures me that this band is Rammstein, if that means anything at all to those of you in the studio audience. Probably I should get me some of that just for annoyance value.
And now I'm going to investigate the making of meringue pies. It's something I want to do. I bought limes special to try this with. Hopefully it will not suck, but I'll keep all ya'll posted with my results, whatever they are. I'll be making what would be a lemon meringue pie if I were using lemons. I will not be using lemons. I will be using limes. We shall see.

Interesting photos
Date: 2005-11-13 02:42 am (UTC)When I was a kid, I used to be skeptical that Manhattan was purchased from the indians for 26 dollars worth of crap. I always figured that there had to have been some sort of compulsion involved. Having seen Crawfords, I realized that the indians were merely ahead of the curve. Selling crap to dumb people has been a good money making strategy for years. There is evidently an almost obsessive compulsion amongst a large segment of the population to buy crap.

Date: 2005-11-13 06:48 am (UTC)Well, that's not... entirely true. Put on something like "Heut ist mein Tag" (Today is My Day) by the bubblegum pop deutsches band Blumchen and you might think otherwise. Their sound is sort of like Aqua on speed. And in German.
It seems, however, that there is no "middle ground" in German rock. You've either got happy-bubbly-bouncy-Blumchen-pop, or angry-speed-Rammstein-death-metal. Nothing in between.
Except, perhaps, bland-and-brassy David Hasselhof, who is apparently still at near-demigod status over in Deutschland. But then again, he sings in English, so I'm not sure if that counts...
