Nov. 10th, 2005 10:56 pmI'm tired. Nothing happened today except that I finished the book. I think I'm going to read it again here in another day or two, just to be sure I didn't miss any good parts.
I'm still rooting for Arya but boy, he cliffhangered us right and proper with her last chapter in this book. Damn him. Hope that's only temporary. I'm liking the faceless men of Braavos angle.
Sansa still bores me, even with a new name. Does anyone besides me think the whole bit with her and Littlefinger is... icky? I keep wanting that to go places mad, bad, and dangerous to know. If this were fanfic, he'd be fucking her. Smart money says he *wants* to but can't because he's got to marry her off, probably to Harry-the-heir or some other likely lad. Perhaps he'll claim his right after the wedding. I just wouldn't trust him, is all. And with the kissing. Ick. Ick. Ick. Is this just me? Wasn't Littlefinger the one with the hots for her mama?
Samwell Tarly, well, yeah. I like him more than I used to and I think that section of the book is getting interesting. Let's find out more about the Maesters.
Cersei is getting dumber and dumber. I liked to hate her more when she was more competent or better advised. She spent this entire book screwing the pooch.
P. 111
Qyburn: mayhaps I might move Ser Gregor to the dungeons?
Cersei: Do what you will with him but confine your studies to the black cells.
Allegedly Gregor Clegane dies offstage and his head gets sent off to some lordling or other... but then several hundred pages later, we get the following exchange...
Page 479:
Qyburn: I have another sort of champion in mind. What he lacks in gallantry he will give you tenfold in devotion. He will protect your son, kill your enemies, and keep your secrets, and no living man will be able to withstand him.
Cersei: The armorer thinks that I am mad. He assures me that no man is strong enough to move and fight in such a weight of plate.
Dunno about you kids, but I'm reading that as the Mountain That Rides ain't dead yet. Perhaps he's been reanimated or golem-ized or something. I expect we shall see. By the end of the book, Cersei could really use a protector.
Anyway, having TMTR not be dead would give weight to the Sandor Clegane is not dead cheering section.
insidian sez that Sandor isn't dead and I want that to be true. He's not dead. Besides, Sansa is still pining for the fjords on that front so he can't really be dead. Not really. Until otherwise directed, we're going to believe (believe with all our hearts) that Sandor Clegane is currently a lame gravedigger of a monkly novitiate because the other alternative is that he's dead, dead, dead. I do not like that alternative, so we're going with the lame gravedigger option.
Jaime has actually improved. I like him better with one hand than I did with two. I will like him LOTS better if he really does leave Cersei to twist in the wind, which he seems to be willing to do.
One sincerely hopes Zombie-Catelyn-Stark has the good grace to actually die here directly. She's getting kind of skanky.
I like what he's done with Jon Snow.
I was pissed that he left Brienne hanging. I rather liked the Maid of Tarth, personally, and I can't imagine she's really dead. Her choices were pretty limited, though -- hang or agree to kill Jaime. That's going to be a mess, and just when I started to rather like Jaime, too. Brienne can beat him handily with him the way he is now.
I cannot be the only person who needs a fucking chart to follow the action over on the Iron Isles. Too confusing by half.
And finally, nobody should have been surprised that the dragons started eating long pig.
