ずんぐりと肉づきがよい体型のせいで、首がほとんどない。

Because he was so fat and beefy, he nearly didn't have a neck. This is a pretty good fit for the structure in the original, I think. It's clear that ずんぐりと肉づきがよい体型のせいで is the dependant clause and that 首がほとんどない is the independant clause in the original. I'm guessing that ずんぐり is a word along the lines of "fat" (my dictionary came up blank and the internet lead me to what appeared to be a discourse (in Japanese) on the horses and other equids in Lord of the Rings novels, which was interesting but still not, y'know, useful). I am also taking a free hand with 肉 to come up with 'beefy' but what the hell. These are worth what you pay for them. のせいで is a subordinating thingamabob, something I parsed as "the fault of" or "the reason for". It is not all one word. It is probably three words. I know that I have it diagrammed as one word. Deal. In the English version, I settled on "because" since it sounded the least lawyerly. Astute readers will note that I couldn't find a verb anywhere in here. This is because I suck. Probably the grammar police are closing in on my house as I type so that shortly, someone with a bullhorn will announce that I should step away from the keyboard and come out with my hands up.
