which_chickI picked sour montmorency pie cherries today. I pitted them. I froze them. I do not like cherry pie. *sigh* All ya'll have seen Ichi the Killer, right? You know the part where the sick (but surprisingly attractive) blond fuck hangs the other guy from the hooks? That part there? Some days I feel like I'm hanging from family-installed hooks. For reasons that exceed the scope of this post, one of the hooks involves montmorency pie cherries. Stupid fucking pie cherries. There isn't a huge crop and they're not all ripe yet, so I'll need to hit the trees again in a day or so in order to get enough fucking cherries to make a pie. *grumble* Don't even LIKE stupid cherry pie...
In other news, there is a hugely prolific mulberry tree in back of 321. It's on our property and it's truck-accessible. The thing about mulberry trees is that when the fruit is ripe, it falls off the mulberry tree pretty easily. The fruit is now ripe. I'm thinking if I back the pickup truck underneath the branches and spread a sheet I don't love very much in the bed of the pickup and then, er, beat the branches with a stick, I should be able to "pick" an assload of mulberries without having to actually pick them. This is my game plan. It may be a sucky game plan, but it is mine and I'm going to give it a go here directly. I'll keep you posted on how that goes.
I do not yet know what I intend to do with said assload of mulberries, but I'm sure I'll think of something. It's a lot easier to experiment with fruit when the fruit is pretty much free. I don't feel that I'm wasting money if I experiment with mulberries (jelly, jam, syrup, pie, tart, whatever) and it all goes wahoonie-shaped. Should that happen, I'll go "Dude. No biggie. They were free." Probably there will be an amusing write-up of the wahoonie, too.
