ksleet's kidney donation thing (his sister has pkd and he donated a kidney to her because hers had stopped working) was yesterday. Apparently that all went swimmingly. I just got an email update on the situation that was practically glowing in terms of successfulness. This is good. I'm quite fond of him and I was sort of worried about the whole thing. I know that kidney donating and transplanting is kind of routine nowadays -- it's not exactly bleeding-edge technology -- but it's still a pretty big deal in my book. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery and return to the wonderful world of video game programming (that's his day job) and web comic drawing (his not-so-day job).

Date: 2005-06-14 12:50 pm (UTC)Abner and I and his mom were discussing at lunch the other day whether we would be able to do that for our siblings. (Results: Abner--maybe, his mom--no, but her family doesn't really talk to each other, me--without hesitation.)

Date: 2005-06-14 07:08 pm (UTC)I have a friend at church who gave me her e-mail to send to Mark. She also gave a kidney, but to her brother, and she says it's good to have support.
I would give a kidney to one of my sisters or my children without hesitation. I don't think anybody else is physiologically close enough for it to matter. Though heaven knows I'd share a kidney with Karl like a shot if it would make him healthy when he was ill.
