As you know, Bob, I file for every single class action thingie I am eligible for despite being a bit conflicted about class action lawsuits as a genre of lawsuit.

Today I got $6.88 in an additional payment from the Facebook settlement. Nice.

I also got $306.72 from a BCBS (health insurance) settlement of anti-competitive practices. Quite nice.

And I finally sat down and did the Pennie (my state healthcare marketplace that I cordially hate) website with the numbers from my 2025 taxes to update my income.

My income varies quite a bit year to year and about half of what I earn in a year is non-wage income from various (family-but-not-mafia-crime-family) business activities. It's just not a thing I know until the end of the year, so "October through December" for open enrollment doesn't effing help, I don't ever have actual numbers for year X until at least mid-January of year X+1. We had a good year last year, with the businesses.

And yes, I should have done this earlier, but... oof. I have done SO MUCH healthcare shit and I just could not face it until today.

Today, I discovered that the OBBB thing removed the ACA healthcare subsidies for parties making over 400% of the federal poverty line, effective January 1, 2026. I am over 400% of the federal poverty line now, but had qualified for a ACA subsidy previously under the "expanded access to ACA subsidies" thing. That provision terminated in December 2025. I honestly thought I'd checked this (AND I DID LAST YEAR IN THE FALL but I used the 2024 numbers because that's what I had. I did not get the 2025 numbers until most of the way through q1 2026 when the business taxes were finished) and the website said everything was fine with the 2024 numbers. Alas, things are not fine.

My health insurance bill after I entered the updated income information and thereby became disqualified for the ACA subsidy thing went from $360 to 1600. Per month. That is a significant increase. That is a Holy Fucking Shit increase, tbh.

As I said, the ACA healthcare subsidies for people making over 400% of the federal poverty line dried up on Jan 1, 2026. However, since I did not update my information then, they've been paying ... 1300 a month or so for SIX MONTHS and I bet you dollars to doughnuts that someone is going to show up with their hand out for that money back toot sweet.

*sigh*

I don't *have* it but I can get it. It's just... annoying and stressful and I did not see this one coming.

is America "great again" yet?

Our employer health insurance rates have increased 50% over the last 3 years. It is insane.

Relatedly, my costs for healthcare have ALSO gone up - my deductibles are higher, my out of pocket yearly maximum is bigger and my copays are higher.
