Damn it's been a month. Lots of things happening in August, honestly, many of them orange or yellow. Here are some pictures and some words to go along with them.

I saw Lala's pumpkin-ish vine thing blooming by her porch. It sort of volunteered itself and she let it, a luxury of rural, non-HOA living where you don't have to worry about what the neighbors think. It's an unruly, large vine that is working hard at blocking access to her porch. Regular squash (like zucchini and yellow crookneck) have similar five-petaled yellow blossoms, but pumpkin efforts are just more substantial. I think it's the textured look of them.

Lala bought me some cultivated sunflowers at the mile level market the other day. They're so damned cheerful, but I have to find a place to put them where they won't get eaten by deer. Still working on that.

Cleaned out the chicken coop over the weekend and the sun was streaming through the holes in the wall. Made the pigs look very Renaissance Painting, so I took a picture. This is Ernest (larger) and Flannery (smaller), who are For Eating.

Last night, which was clear and calm, we had a power line come down and start a fire in the (exceptionally dry) woods. Emergency services were summoned to deal with the issue because the wire was live and sparking and everybody knows you don't go near downed wires. Like, that's kindergarten levels of knowledge. It sure looked impressive at night while waiting for the fire department to arrive.

But in the morning, it really wasn't that big. Turns out that power lines sparking are just... really bright.

And I grew some marigolds this year, which looked really amazing during one of our 'light mist' rain events. I took a picture that does not do justice.

That is quite a thematic color palette!

Many lovely flowers, especially those marigolds. The sun coming in with the pigs is extremely dramatic.

Glad the downed power line didn't create anything worse, though that is a bit anticlimactic after the sparks from the line!

Gorgeous pics! And I'm glad the arcing wires didn't cause a larger problem.
