I posted a while ago about how good riders get good with some example pictures of Tots and Ponies and stuff.

It's been a year and some since I posted that, but I have an update. Everyone likes updates, right?

Our featured Tot #1 from the prior post, this year old enough to be in 4H, joined same and engaged in competitive horse showing in appropriate events during the season.

It went well. (This was entirely expected. Tot #1 has an appropriate pony and supportive adults fostering real-life practice and offering instruction, etc. There's a lot of work going in to making this happen, not just on the part of Tot #1 but also on the part of many surrounding adults.)

Here is Tot #1 and Suitable Pony at the state 4-H horse show (which happens at the end of the competitive season, it's kind of like the playoffs for 4H horse showing), wherein our Tot #1 from the aforementioned post (see link) did indeed make it to the highest level available of the competitive event and then placed first at same. Good rider getting good.

Here's a pic:

(I have made a reasonable effort to obscure the identity of Tot #1 but if you really wanted to, I suspect you could dox an eight year old. Don't do that, it's a jerk move. We are going to behave as if we are all reasonable people and capable of civilization.)
