New kitten
Jul. 31st, 2022 08:07 amOver the previous weekend I acquired a new kitten. This was an occasion of some moment because my tiny house has a hard limit of 2 for the permitted number of cats. I like the idea of more cats, but the reality is not for me. Also I'm in the high risk group for cat lady being a woman of a certain age who lives alone.
I have been over this before, last time I got a cat. Basically, I feel like the people who run into cat lady problems have some point after two where it all becomes too much and they just give up and are overrun. But two, two is a manageable number.
Two is easy to count to. It represents a good number of cats for my life. They probably won't die at the same time so I am not likely to be entirely cat-less at any point. They usually have a buddy to play with. There is a litter pan for everyone. There is enough bed for everyone, room on the couch for everyone, etc. Two is a good number.
Regular readers will recall that in April, I became a household of one cat. Bins (actual name Ungrateful Bastard, shortened to Youbee) departed and now resides under the Osage Orange treelet in the back yard (which is doing MUCH BETTER now that I have fenced it to keep the deer from eating off its leaves). Perhaps one day it will grow large enough to make shade for her so that she can lounge there, tail flipping idly as she surveys her demesne. (I am reasonably sure that people don't get an afterlife but my pets all do. I will die on this hill.)
Anyway, I became a household of two cats again. Second cat, very-much-junior cat remains more-or-less unnamed. but has managed to learn how to House Cat in the ensuing week and is now allowed in the entire house. Kobe (the senior cat) is not amused by this development.
Junior cat is in the leggy kitten stage but will probably not ever get huge. Kobe is a nineteen pound not-fat male (fixed, all my cats are spayed/neutered as soon as it is feasible for vets to do that) cat and Squeaky Wheel junior cat is significantly smaller than he is. However, when she hisses at him, he leaves. He is imposing but he's a wimp just the same.
Junior cat still needs a name and I'm not overly pressed about this. A name will happen. Right now she's Squeaky Wheel, which may become permanent. One never knows. She is very squeaky. Also is napping on my chest as I write this, so yay.
