My mom texted me today while I was being useless at work. She was dropping off chocolate crinkle-top cookies at my house, which was thoughtful.

I am trying to lose weight. She knows this. As such, I am not trying to eat cookies.

Chocolate crinkle-top cookies are not in my top ten of cookies.

(Yes, but you probably are some sort of cookie snob and only like difficult cookies like moravian spice or some shit. And you can't expect your mom to be making gourmet cookies, right? WRONG. In my top ten cookies are... brownies with an obscene amount of walnuts, Rice Fucking Krispie Treats, and goddamn no-bakes. That right there is a set of three seriously fucking easy cookies. So shut your trap, Jon Snow.)

Chocolate crinkle-top cookies are supposed to be soft. These were not.

She also had her husband "stack" the wood that, according to text msg, "had been thrown down off woodpile for (you) likely by some other helpful relative".

The stacking was very nicely done. It was also the green, tree-fell-this-fall-in-thunderstorm black walnut that needs to sit for a year before it will burn well.

This was, to be fair, the wood from the pile absolutely the closest to the door of my house.

But also, there is persistent snow on the ground and a well-trodden PATH to the far side of the woodpile where there are three half-racks of wood being worked on currently what you can tell by way of bark bits ON TOP OF THE SNOW and no snow cover on ground at raw ends of pile.

So, whoever threw the wood down was lazy or didn't look or thought that I was too dumb to use the "super-close" wood.

Idiots. I am surrounded by idiots.

So when I got home from work, after I fed my horse and put him back in the field and filled the water in the lower field, I un-stacked all the green wood that was piled unhelpfully on my steps and re-installed it on the fucking woodpile. And I got properly dry wood from the far side of the woodpile and carried it to my house and emptied the ashes from the woodstove and laid and lit a fire and cooked dinner and ate it and washed the dishes and texted my mom to thank her for the cookies and the lovely wood-stacking job Rod did.

*sigh*

I also wrote (printed, in wobbly block letters like the world's most pissy second-grader) a note telling people not to mess with my woodpile and scotch-taped it to my front door in the hopes of warning off randos from showing up and fucking with my woodpile. *grrr*

I am doing ok at my everyday life skills, but I can't do my hair. I made my cousin Heather braid it for me today. Laur will do it for me on the weekend and since I wash it twice a week, that will be fine.

Anyway, I feel like people wanting to offer help should ASK FIRST and if the HELP-EE is like "I'm good, thx" then the helper should just be "ok, but let me know if you need something." They can check back later to see how recovery is going or whatever.

Always a good plan.
