I have measured my exceptionally large* bathroom and determined that I would like a bathmat that is approximately 32" x 24". Like, that'll fit and be nice. It's a good size.

I want a checkerboard pattern for the bath mat. (This is to pick up on the checkerboard pattern in the tile that doesn't exist yet.) Anyway, to make a checkerboard with clear colors, I want to shrink the squares first and put them together afterward so that there's no color bleeding during the shrinking process.

I need lots of squares put together. How many squares? I think 63 x 2 so 126. This seems like an utter fuckton of squares. The squares aren't big, they should shrink to just about 3.5" on each side. So, 9 squares on one side and 7 squares on the other side and that's 63 squares. I want it double-thick, so that's 126 squares. It's like a bathroom afghan over here.

The squares are not big. They're 18 stitches across (yarn held double and knitted on 8's) and 24 rows tall.

My plan is to shrink the colors separately and then sew the shrunken squares together. I have no idea what I'm doing here. This may not work but it may also work. I dunno. We shall see.

*My entire house is exceptionally large. If I say this enough times, it will be true. :)
