I hauled Bird up to the Very Nice Indoor in Imler for another weekend lesson. The endless sleety snowstorms and frozen temps here have really put the kibosh on outdoor riding so if I want any time in March on my freaking horse, it's To The Indoor. Or whatever.

Bird hauls well and, since I got it a new fuel filter, the truck has been running well. Trailer lights continue to be a concern, but mostly we're mechanically sound-ish out there. But I still worry. Nothing went badly, though, and I even managed to back the trailer without hitting anything or embarrassing myself horribly.

At lesson, we did Moar Straightness, which was actually useful. And hard. With moar straightness achieved, we were to provide Moar Trot, which was variably successful, largely based on how well I'd accomplished Moar Straightness. Comment from instructor (who has seen this horse since he was a wobbly and narrow 4 yr old) was "He's going to be so much fun this year." Honey, he been fun all the years. Different kinds of fun, but fun. (I whine like hell about the Dressage journey or whatever but I honestly like my horse and his progress.) She's never had what I would call Future Vision with da Bird, so it's kind of nice to see her coming around on him.

I'm going to try to get a spin on him tomorrow AM before heading out after lunch on an expedition to Look At A Horse. (I'm shopping, a little. No, it is not Too Soon. Yes, I am still crying over my fucking dead baby horse. I'll be doing that for a while. Doesn't mean I can't like another one.) I do not know that I will love the horse, but I am going to go look at it. We shall see.

And on the Cooler Chicken front, I talked to the chicken guy from Craigslist, who YES had cooler chickens for sale ($5.00 each, straight run) and YES could sell me eight of them, two of those eight for Mordecai. So this evening Lala and I drove up to the ends of the earth (Williamsburg) and bought $40.00 of Maran chickens from the chicken guy so that we could have fancy dark brown eggs. (...in about six months. It's not an instant thing. These are teeny little balls of fluff, not really chicken sized yet.)

On the Chicken Expedition, we saw two horse-n-buggies and went past The Cow Vet in Martinsburg (The Cow Vet is the one who worked so hard to save my dead baby horse from kidney failure. He's a good guy and it's not his fault that the dead baby horse died.) and also we stopped at the gas station (Lala had to pee) and got Coconut Thai Peanut M&M's which were WAY BETTER than we thought they would be. We got the "For Sharing" size and actually shared them. Go us!
