which_chickIn my baby steps forward on the technology front, I have figured out how to take small movies with my small digital camera. I can remove the movies from the digital camera, go me, and put them on the internets. This is probably not actually a good idea because now the entire world can see how freaking badly I ride and the poor dinky little arab that I am torturing to death with my riding and so forth.

This is our first day working on measured gymnastic exercises. The book says the ground poles should be 4'6" apart. Having ridden my horse through the grid, and now looking at the video of same, I think that's a bit long for her. I'm going to reset them at 4'3" (Pony Club suggested distance for trotting poles for a "large pony, small horse" sized critter) and see how that goes.
I also think that the book's suggestion for 18' for the one-stride space between the two jumps leaves her way too damn far back for a proper take-off distance for the oxer. (The book assumes you are riding a 16hh thoroughbred. I am riding something about eight inches short of that standard. My horse does not have the stride of a horse eight inches taller than she is.) We're going to reset that one stride distance to the Pony Club suggested distance of 16'6" and see if it works any better for her.
For the studio audience, the first fence is about 20" tall, the second one is 2'3" (the taller part of the oxer). I am a n00b, my horse is a n00b, so these are small and non-intimidating jumps. I know that my form sucks. One of the purposes of taking video is to see where I suck and then try to get less sucky on those parts.
I need to sit up more -- I get kicked forward on the jumps, obviously so on the oxer. *sigh* More practice. (I did not post the video that I have of Trys being caught unaware with a very late jumping effort from the yellow mare M, but it's hysterical.)
