Nov. 10th, 2009 07:44 pmAfter the stupid baseball hiatus, House resumed last night so I'm watching it today after having let the torrents have their wicked way with my laptop while I was off pretending to work. I slipped back into House like (insert inappropriate sexual metaphor here -- I'd use one of my own but that would reveal more about me than my parents probably want to know).
The current episode, which was chock-the-fuck-full of plotly elements, had a lovely instance of the male gaze via camerawork. Now, we've gotten a fair amount of that (ongoing) in House, particularly when he's looking at Cuddy. It's part of how the show makes us believe that there's something there on the House side of the Huddy front.
Now, I'm not complaining about having to ogle Cuddy's delightful ass or having to ogle Cuddy's rather impressive boobs. I'm not complaining. Her assets are, well, quite nice. As with the writers, however, I'm of the opinion that watching House ogle Cuddy is more fun than watching him actually *catch* Cuddy would be. (Remember, kiddies, it's not about what would make House happy, it's about what will keep people watching the show. Happiness is not very fun to watch.)
In this episode, we get some more backstory on the Historical-Huddy front at the party before Cuddy runs out of the room because she hears the keening wail of what might have been dying slowly to the lyrical strains of Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. (Fucking song. That song and a quite large selection of *other* eighties slow-dance tunes have the magical powers to make me fourteen or so again. I did not enjoy being fourteen. Actually everything from about twelve to about twenty-five was a fucking wash. There were a lot of slow dances that I didn't dance during that era. There were a lot of slow dances all 'round that I didn't dance. I am apparently not the sort of person who gets to slow dance a lot. Anyway. Due to my malformed formative years, eighties slow-dance tunes have an Instant Angst ability that I personally find somewhat uncomfortable.) On the plus side, shippers will be happy to have the "college one-nighter" as official canon from this point forward plus also a rational explanation of why it never got a follow-up and stayed unfinished business. Huzzah! Good job, writers!
With the current episode, the writers have broken the odds of House catching Cuddy anytime soon (because she's seeing the private eye from last season or whatever) and so there isn't much point to him ogling her anymore. Damn. He might ogle after this, but it'd be purely out of habit and not out of hopefulness. It's cuter when it's out of hopefulness. Also, I expect that since he's all trying to be an adult about it, he probably won't ogle at all. Pity, that. Shame, really, if Cuddy goes around wearing those damn skirts and nobody ogles. It'd be such a waste...
Interestingly, Wilson didn't know she was dating the PI Lucas, because he encouraged House to ask her out and didn't offer the "seeing someone else" explanation for why Cuddy didn't catch House's pass. (Not a metaphor. Could be a metaphor, but I wasn't going there with it.) How long has she been seeing Lucas? Since the cooking shows? She showed up at the (Wilson's) house when House was making gnocci and kind of hung on him. She wouldn't do that if she was seeing Lucas, would she? I don't think so. Cuddy's pretty straight up. So, the Lucas thing is recent-ish, I think. Maybe they'll tell us more later.
Also, we are *so* going to see unhappiness in Chez Chase/Cameron. Partly I know this because Cameron has been written out of the show mid-season and because Chase has been downward-spiraling ever since he offed James Earl Jones. I am actually liking the downward spiraling of Chase -- he's prettier when he's stressed, depressed, and angsty. I can't wait to see him stupidly self-destructive.
Anyway, House yay. I missed House. I did not enjoy baseball hiatus.

Date: 2009-11-11 01:48 pm (UTC)Dead Zone, on the other hand, I've been marathoning since Saturday evening. I have no idea why I didn't get heavily into this show when I actually had cable. It's utterly brilliant through the end of the second season. Doomful and sad and serious. And the DVDs are dirt cheap these days...

Date: 2009-11-11 06:35 pm (UTC)Mom's tossed me several seasons of Roswell, which I need to start working through, and I'd like to catch the current season of Mad Men up to date but I just haven't had the time. I also follow Dexter in real time, but it isn't the bright shiny thing that House is for me.
I could pick up a dvd set of Dead Zone, in my spare time, but I'd like to work my way through Thief first -- progress on that has bogged down in the rat's maze of the freaking guild right now and I need time to unsnarl the twisty little passages, all of which look alike. Maybe after I make La cookies this evening.
