Nov. 26th, 2004 08:36 amThanksgiving went well enough. It's easier to not-care that they're doing the gravy wrong when you are not related to the people doing-it-wrong. (Cornstarch is not the proper thickener for gravy. Flour is.) The dessert was apple pie, which I made so it was quite proper. I would have enjoyed a squash pie, the holiday pie of my people, but as Aisha claimed that canned Libby-based pie was the dessert of her people, I didn't bring stuff to make one of those. Her people ate the apple pie instead of the dessert of her people.
I took the carcass of the turkey and boiled it down for soup, a feature of Thanksgiving that Aisha's people did not appear to appreciate. In my world, a gallon of scratch turkey stock is not to be sneezed at. I believe I'll make some noodles-and-broth today so that I will have something to eat. Home-made noodles, of course. I don't like the bought kind. There won't be any meat in the soup, but it'll still be good.
I'm still sicker than a dog and being on the phone for over an hour last night didn't do my voice any fucking good. My throat hurts pretty badly today. I'm hoping that it will improve if I don't talk to anyone.
