I had a busy weekend of things.

Friday I went down to Thurmont with Trys, Bethy, and Liss. We bought a dressage saddle ($2000 new, we paid 225, go-go-shitty-economy!) and watched the horses sell. They sold a horse (not a very nice one) for thirty-five dollars. High price at the sale was slightly over 1K. Thurmont is not a high-end horse auction. Trys wants to go down again in early April, which I'm not against.

Trys's pony lady Kat was there. She's interesting, sat with us and we chatted while the horses were being sold. (We were not buying horses. We drove there in a Ford Focus.) Maybe, if you are not the sort of person who attends horse auctions, you wonder what can people DO at a horse auction that lasts from 6 PM (they start selling the tack then) to 10 PM when they're done selling all the horses. If you're horse people, sales are not boring. We like to guess how much people will pay for the horse currently being sold. (This is a fun game, also a useful way to develop your eye for what people want to buy in the horse world.)

I got home from the sale about midnight, went to bed without building a fire because I was tired.

Saturday I went over to La's to make breakfast crepes for them. I got there at 7:30 AM and the crepes went pretty well although I fucked up the chocolate sauce (too sweet). The raspberry sauce came out OK. After crepes, I helped Trys delouse everything in the lower field and took a short ride on Lutely. Then I... I... somehow it wound up that I lost several hours (no idea where they went) and at the end of the day was bagging meat from the half-a-cow that they'd had butchered. I got home at a quarter to eleven in the evening.

Again with the no-fire, directly-to-bed activity.

Sunday I got up and out of the house early to La's because Sunday is for huevos (with-an-h), the which I did have. I went out after and took a spin on Nicknick, who did tolerably well. I really worked on seat and hip-joint movement in pursuit of a bigger, more engaged walk, the which I think I got. However, as it was just me out there, I don't know for sure. To be sure, I need a spotter on the ground to tell me how we're doing. *sigh* I would not need this if I had better feel but I do not have better feel. Kinesthetics is a dump stat for me. I did have the presence of mind, when my horse mistook "extend the trot" for "yee-haw, canter!", to (eventually) unlock my knees and sit the hell down in the saddle whereupon my total lack of brakes and Goof's rather alarming accelleration wound down into a relaxed canter that then slipped into an easy trot. (Pony lady has been trying to get me to do this in reaction to a high-n-tight canter for the last six months or so. I do it when I'm yelled-at-to-do-it but this was the first time that it arose from the depths of my mind as an answer, unbidden.)

I went home and raked a lot of the dead vegetation in my back not-a-yard into huge piles. I would have liked to have set it on fire but it was too windy. Also, it's appallingly dry out and I'd like there to be some rain before I set massive piles of bracken fern on fire. Those things go up a treat when you put a match to 'em and I'd rather not have the whole entire five hundred-acre woods go up a treat. So, that's a project for another day. I also split some more of the wood from M's yard, though progress on that has slowed considerably because I'm out of the pretty stuff and it's uglies from here until we're done. Ick.

Since the weather was nice, I let the cats outside while i was doing yard work. Youbee killed something small and brown and squeaky. She seemed all proud about it, too.

I was going to make curry following all of that but I'm too damn tired. I did make a fire this evening, though, and the house is nicely warm.
