which_chickToday I helped Roy fill potholes in the road. This wasn't an asphalt-involved thing. The road's dirt, and we just filled the potholes with modified (stone) and a shovel. I was the one with the shovel.
I also cleaned some of the living room this morning -- I'm a terrible housekeeper and I've let things go to hell for too long. It's time to attend to some of that, before someone who is just doing this because she cares signs me up for one of those clutter-busters visits. The horror of having someone else come to my house to liberate me from the tyranny of stuff and, in the process, root through my (extensive collection of) sex toys and porn would certainly be fatal to someone, though whether the corpse would be me or the clutter-buster is up in the air. Best to clean it up myself before that happens. Plus, clutter isn't healthy, except for spiders.
Look for further exciting updates on this subject as the week progresses! Watch, in thrilled silence, as our intrepid explorer investigates the Lost City of Ee, or whatever that is, hiding underneath the couch! Gasp in amazement as she tackles the cardboard closet! (Some people have coat closets in the living room, for visitors to hang their coats in. Other people, people who heat with wood, have closets with lots of pieces of cardboard squirreled away in them for the daily pyrotechnics of the heating season. Guess which group I'm in?) Celebrate the rediscovery of the laundry room and experience lint archaeology as it happens! Learn what color the bathroom floor *really* is! Of course, I could get bored and lose all motivation before we get that far, but we can certainly hope...
In the Edged Words Department, telling one's child that he or she has a job as a glorified janitor is a good way to make him or her not want to support you in your old age. It's also inviting him or her to turn down the opportunity to do minor and major home repairs when visiting you. Children who are not on the dole, not asking you for money, and gainfully employed in legitimate businesses are Right-Thinking People who should be left alone to make their way in the world, free from parental pejoratives about their profession.
