Today I kept waiting for it to rain. Despite dropping temperatures and wind that showed the undersides of leaves, it didn't rain until damn near dark. Oh, well. While I was waiting for the rain to arrive, I split some wood in the yard. I know that it's almost summer, but I still have wood to split in my yard from last year. I worked on that, got some of the oustanding balance of craptastic wood split. Some of it I even stacked.
I also took Project Horse out for a short spin today. It was her first outing wearing an English saddle (we'd been using the red seat western saddle for security blanket purposes) and her second outing wearing a bridle instead of a halter with pretend reins. She did a nice job up on the hill across the road. We did walk and trot, with transitions. Downward (slowing down) needs some work, upward transitions are fine. I've got a game plan to do something about the downward ones this coming week -- I really think it's rider error, will keep all ya'll posted. Anyway, Project Horse did a really nice job and she's totally a smoother ride than Nick ever was. (Nick is roughly the size of the Hindenburg but shows no signs of looking imminently partuitionary. She's got about two weeks to go, we think.)
Friday we did make it to Thurmont in time for the tack portion of the sale despite leaving a full hour later than we'd planned to leave. Apparently Thurmont twinks around with the tack sale stuff (noninteresting items) so that a crowd can assemble before they sell off the saddles. They had two, maybe three saddles that we liked but they went for too much money. I would like a Stubben, but I don't want one new. I don't show. It doesn't have to look new. It does have to be functional. I don't want to pay two hundred dollars for a functional saddle. I want one cheaper than that and this is not an urgent issue anyway. Horse prices were crappy and auctions depress me, so 'nuff said on that front.
