Special for my cousin Heather: The socks are done. They are totally done. They have elastics. They have sewn-down sleeves for the elastics. They have all the ends woven in. They are, at this VERY MOMENT, soaking in their first-ever bath prior to blocking into final shape. Please stop making fun of me about the socks not being done yet.

Full disclosure: it has taken me more than a year to get the damn socks done. I am not a fast knitter nor am I a dedicated knitter. My head has been turned by other projects and activities (4-H state CTR, anyone? Roxxor, I say unto thee. It's been a good year...) and I have been unfaithful to the HoHI. Probably some mockery was deserved. Probably I deserved less mockery than I got, but anyway... I have finally fully finished the fucking socks.

Persons attending the get-together this weekend at the House of Nadz will be able to view the socks in their finished glory. I'm sure everyone there is just as excited as I am about this. :)

I can work on one or more of the following projects:

1. Spinning for the Hemlock Ring Blanket (Yes, I do have enough ready-to-use fluff to occupy me for a good while. I like carding and I'm pretty speedy at it.) This project is transportable, doesn't require my full attention, and is neat in the "spinning" part. I don't have any desire to wash or card fleece at someone else's house -- both are kind of messy and probably would not go over well.

2. Patterned mittens for my mother. These aren't cast on yet and I don't have a pattern for them yet (still thinking about it) but I do have yarn, sticks, and gauge. (They will use up the leftover yarns from the HoHI -- I already have a very good idea of my gauge with these sticks and this yarn in stranded-in-the-round knitting due to substantial sample size of the HoHI.) I really don't know what I'm doing for a pattern but in the event of an emergency, I can do something Latvian and just schlep along my Latvian Mitten book. Probably not very transportable, will take a fair amount of attention even when underway.

3. I can work on the baby hat for my cousin's kid which is cast on and doesn't need a pattern. It's transportable in one bag and dead easy to work so I should be able to manage it even in the face of conversation.

4. I can start charting and swatching for the Cabled Socks Of Twisty Doom (CSTD is the next huge sock project. The object of lust upon which they are based is Eunny Jang's Bayerische (http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2006/09/bayerische_sock_part_ii.html) but mine will not be green. Mine will also be just-below-the-knee height instead of mid-calf. (This is going to mean I need graceful and attractive calf decreases which probably means maths.) Mine will not contain the more lozenge-shaped cables that I don't like so well and they may contain "real" cables as well as twisted stitch ones... but since I'm still thinking about what I'd like, this is not a working-on project. It's a thinking-on project, so not as good for show-n-tell.

I'll bring the spinning. Also, the Bayerische pattern is free, so it's not like that's holding you back... They'd be small. Portable!
