Date: 2007-04-05 01:26 am (UTC)I've put in another email to see what I can find out. I'm not in love with the idea of ordering a whole nother camera again to see what *that* shipping would look like. I don't really want two of them and I don't trust their order-canceling-system.

Date: 2007-04-05 11:01 am (UTC)I searched. I picked the first search result for the item I wanted. I clicked it. I bought the "new item as displayed" choice, not some used or greymarket selection. And I verified that the shipping time was three to four days for the damn thing, in every step, because I'm kind of weird like that.
Amazon wrote back.
I'm sorry about the delay in getting your order #104-1929304-6851901
to you. We recently learned that "Nikon D200 10.2MP Digital SLR
Camera (Body Only)" is back-ordered.
I will explain you what had happened exactly. The item which is currently displayed on the website says that the item is in stock. This item which is currently says as "in stock" is not sold by Amazon.com., it was sold by one of our third-party market place seller "Cameta Camera".
When you placed your order for this item on our website, you have
placed the order with Amazon.com, and currently the item is not
avaliable with Amazon.com. It has been back-ordered. I apologize
if it was not clear when you placed the order.
As soon as we receive it at our fulfillment center, we'll ship your
package and send you an e-mail confirming the shipment.
From this email, I learned two things.
1. Amazon's email person does not speak English as a first language.
2. Amazon says I ordered a thing which looks JUST LIKE this thing but which has different availability due to being handled by a different third-party marketplace seller company. That's very interesting.
Even more interesting is the fact that I cannot find the other thing, the thing that is backordered until hell freezes over, on their fucking website. If there had been two choices, d200 available in three days or d200 available in fucking May, you can bet your ass I'd have bought the one available in three days. Nowhere on Amazon's website can I locate the thing that I ordered and the website keeps telling me I ordered the "ships in 3-4 days" product, as per Picture 2 above.
I am not amused.
