Dec. 28th, 2006 09:27 pmI wonder sometimes if there's a reason that bacon is not a controlled substance...
For dinner this evening, I had green beans cooked in bacon fat and with wee little pieces of bacon. I cooked the green beans well past where I normally cook them for "parboiled with butter" -- they were soft and browned in spots -- but they're really good that way. Lots of good. With extra bacon.
Probably I'm going to hell for that. (While generally atheistical in outlook, I associate enough guilt with my food that I expect me and my food guilt could pass for some sort of Catholic undertaking.)
Cousin Heather called me today to let me know that the grocery had five-for-five-bucks avocados. (They had for shit avocados yesterday when I grocery shopped, but Thursday is a produce delivery day and Lo, there were avocados today.) I am not ashamed to admit that I bought five. :) 4225, I <3 U! I also got fresh garlic, cilantro, jalapenos, tomatoes, and two limes. It should not take a rocket scientist to see where I'm going with this...
When I was at the grocery yesterday, there was pork loin for a buck-fifty-seven a lb, which was nearly affordable. As I'm just about out of pork loin (one more piece, currently thawing in the fridge for dinner tomorrow night), I bought a new one and cut it up and froze it. Yummy! (This did about double my grocery bill -- the pork loin alone was nigh on twenty bucks.)
In other news, I got thirty-two dollars in recycling money (aluminum and four car batteries) today. Saving the planet, making me money -- it's all good. While I was there, the guy in front of me had brought in three fifty-five gallon drums full of assorted coppery bits. Yowza. I think the recycling place guy said that new copper was two dollars and fifty cents a pound. (Scrap price runs less than that, something around a buck-eighty, I think.) That's a hell of a lot.
Showtime's Dexter is two episodes from over for me... damn, it's a fun television. (I have a fair amount of sympathy for Dexter's difficulties navigating the world of the flesh people.)
Special for
fooliv: Yes, I'll take 'em to New Year's for delivering to Dave if he's there. If Dave isn't there, they can ride home with me again and I'll ship them out (insured against loss) to your preferred mailing address as soon as you give me one of those.
