For those who wanted pictures of the sock fixing, I have those. Yay me!



Here's where I picked up the stitches for the sleeve thing to put the elastic in. (These pictures were taken with the sock arranged on a copy of Meg Swanson's Knitting and not on my skin. My skin is not that color.)



Because non-knitters might not be able to see where that was, here it is again with lime green highlighting...



Here's what it looks like on the outside when I'm wearing the sock. (This picture was taken with the sock on my leg. That is the color of my skin... the flesh color, not the plaid flannel. The plaid flannel is the color of my pajamas.)



There's a bit of a dent where the elastic hits my pudgy calf. I've drawn a line in green so that you can see it better.

A is the top of the sock.
B is the hole for replacing elastic. (Note visible elastic.)
C is the seam between the knitted-on sleeve and the pre-existing sock ribbing

i have to say, not only do you have cool socks, but you also display as bizarre a range of musical taste as i do. one of these days i'm gonna need to get a turntable and rip my old vinyl gary numan albums into mp3s. have you heard any of the stuff that he's done lately?

I haven't heard any of the stuff he's done lately. I wound up with Numan via a select-all-and-copy-to-memory-stick move. (I take my memory stick to people's houses and take big chunks of their .mp3 collections.)

I do delete stuff that arrived that route if I absolutely can't stand it, but there's quite a lot of music I rather enjoy that came into my life more or less by accident. This was one of those.

Tezuka Kunimitsu is the captain of the Seigaku tennis team in Prince of Tennis, a shounen sports anime of which I'm inappropriately fond.

I'm pretty pleased with how the hem thing came out. For a first draft, it does not suck. The next time I do a hem for sock elastic (probably on the Hooves of Hot Iron), I will do a better job.

Interestingly, the Meg Swanson book (has the cart for the HoHI socks) has the following helpful information about turned under knit hems: Knit even one round, then k8,k2tog to make fit. :) NYR, make a note. Also, you would probably enjoy the reading parts in this book even if you never make anything out of it.

On the color: I try for accuracy in writing. If I call it eyestrain purple, you can bet that's the color it is. As it happens, the socks are not quite as hideous in person but they're still pretty damn purple. The flash and camera sort of exaggerate the purpleness a bit.

Even so, when someone says purple, I expect more violet and less fuschia, and fuschia out-eyestrains even the most violently bright violet any day, heh.

I have enough stupid customer rewards points on my credit card to get a nice amazon gift card, so I think I might get my sweaty little paws on some knitting books soon. (I fabricate points for amazon gift cards by cycling my student loan money through the card. It's like free money!)

You're looking at the back of the character dongle that hangs off my digital camera. Since you can't really tell who it is in the picture, I labled him in poorly-written hirigana: Tezuka.
