Jul. 3rd, 2006 02:43 amThere was more wind today. In the morning, there was a pretty good breeze. The tree leaves flopped over and whole big branches moved. After lunch, the winds appeared to calm down. Things did not stay calmed down, though, and reverted to the trees were showing the underneaths of their leaves and the branches were sort of boiling state of affairs. Eek.
I went out anyway. In the morning, I flpped the boat during a too-sudden gybe. It righted easily and, though I got to go swimming and lost a sail batten, it was not otherwise a problem. I climbed back in and parked the boat to wait for gentler winds.
In the afternoon, the mainsheet block disconnected from the traveller. (This arrangement holds the rear corner of the sail to the traveller so that you can sheet and control the mainsheet. Without it, you don't have much control over what the sailboat is doing and the boat tipped over until the mast stuck in the mud. That was somewhat less fun.
