Jan. 13th, 2008 10:22 pmI do not need a scholarly edition of the collected works of John Wilmot. I do not. There is no earthly reason I need such a thing. I don't. DO NOT NEED. DO NOT. (Oh, but I want one. Even if it's expensive and not good for me.) We are buying the cheapie paperback collected poems-and-plays book instead. Price for expensive hardback scholarly edition: $225.00. Price for less-expensive oop paperback edition: $123.00. Price for extremely cheap poems-and-plays: $12.00. I think we're going to have to skip the letters (pity, really -- people are frequently at their most amusing in letters) and go for the actual poems-and-plays to see if we like them enough to spring for the middling-expensive complete-works edition.
