I'm pleased to report that, for the first time since mid-September, I have working reverse DNS again. The planets (Savvis, NewEdge Networks, ARIN) have aligned once more and the heavens are at peace. I am happy. It really, really pisses me off when I don't change anything and shit stops working.

In other news, Liss mentioned wanting ham and bean soup and then went off on how I never make enough of anything. Right. We all know how that's going to turn out, don't we?

For the folks at home, here's how to make a huge amount of ham and bean soup because you have been accused of never making enough:

Boil the shit out of roughly six pounds of butt ham (get the real kind with the bone in it) in a huge pot with enough water to cover the lump o' meat. You should be boiling for at least two hours. Remove meat from broth. Cool slightly. Pick meat off and make into bite-sized pieces, as for soup. (D'oh.) If fussy about that sort of thing, remove icky bits, connective tissues, fatty bits, etc. Definitely remove bones. Put "safe" meat bits back in broth. Add two pounds of dried navy beans (rinsed and picked over), four big stalks celery (diced), one large white onion (diced), four generously sized carrots (peeled and diced), and two big bay leaves. Cook at low boil until beans are done, adding water as needed. Pepper if desired. Should not require any salt. Makes rather a lot of soup.
