Jan. 1st, 2006 09:57 pmHad a lovely New Year's with people I have long known. Played lots of feet-on-the-arrows games (Konami's DDR iterations, Roxor's In The Groove, the Korean Pump It Up) with a reasonable amount of enthusiasm if not a whole lot of success. Sector R's entirely amusing friend Scott (Of This is Otakudom fame) also attended the function and besides making me laugh way too much, he quite graciously let us suck at all of his feet-on-the-arrow dance games. (Scott is way, way better at these games than any of us were.) It was inspiring. I have got to get better. While that was very fun, it wasn't the only thing I did with the evening.
I was impressed with
not_your_real's nifty socking technique which I think I might need to do for me. It would certainly fix the "socks not quite the same length" problem, a remedy which would, in itself, be a strong incentive to get cracking on the lovely, red, sexy sock yarn of lushness that nevertheless does not self-stripe. (I am not much of a fan of self-striping.) I will have to search the internets for directions to make sure that I do not fuck up the interesting knit-flat-two-socks-on-one-needle sock approach. I will be doing the top-down sock method because I *like* heel flaps but
not_your_real is more a fan of toe-up socks with an afterthought heel.
I have some of the cookies left over (yay!) for eating with coffee. That is in no way a bad thing. Most of the cookies (I made absolutely lots) got eaten, people offered to help me get rid of the rest (I declined their kind offers of assistance) and happily,
ksleet was there to eat the kind he liked, which was good.
The crepes went over pretty well. I was sorry that the black raspberry flavor topping got all gone in a hell of a hurry, but apparently I didn't understand well enough what really, really like means. I'll know better next time.
Rather unexpectedly,
ladyivy wound up stuck in the hospital for New Year's Eve, so we visited en masse (it was only about five minutes from Sector R's house) to take the party to her. She was in good spirits and appreciated the snack tray we brought almost as much as our sparkling wit. They kept her overnight but let her go home on New Year's Day, so she did get to visit a bit with the group, which was nice.
New Year's Day wrapped up with a late lunch at the local Applebee's and then
ksleet had to head off to the airport to fly back to the Windy City.
After the function, I suggested to Sector R that he might consider hosting a function to welcome home our ex-pat when he returns from Good Korea in April... this after eighteen people had spent two days carousing in his house. He seemed kind of open to the idea. Wow. Truly, he is a man among men and a generous soul, indeed.

We had a fun New Years. Missed you all, of course, but still. We watched The AVengers with Emma Peel (my favorite).

Date: 2006-01-02 08:41 am (UTC)All in all, I believe this was one of the best NYE gatherings our circle has had. Kudos to Sector R and Berlin St. Partygoer for putting it all together. And Happy New Year to all!
