I cut the front yard today for the first time since June. I would have done the other yard but there's a lot of unstacked wood cluttering up the grass and I have to stack that so that I can GET to the grass. *sigh*

If you just leave the wood on the other yard, it'll kill the grass, and then you won't have to cut it. Problem solved.

Eric read that grass only needs to be mowed once a month. Mowing it any more often than that just encourages it.

Now, this was useless information to us with our trusty reel mower, since leaving it go longer than a week makes it too tough to push, but one of his coworkers drove by and saw him struggling with the lawn and now we may get a free power mower...

Power mowers aren't that expensive... I got mine (human-propelled, ordinary sort of push mower) brand new for something like a hundred, hundred and twenty bucks. When ya buy 'em, they come flat in a box and you do the some-assembly when you get home. Probably you can fit it in his trunk or your'n.

I only mow my lawn once a month, too, but I don't water it, so there are only bits of it that get really jungley. I was mowing last night, and it turned into a bit of an adventure. I left it go a little longer than usual, and it was a dense and vibrant thicket.

Oh, I don't water at all. I just totally neglect. If I put weed killer on the alleged lawn, it'd be a patch of dirt in two weeks.

When I do mow, I prop the mower spitter cover open so that it doesn't get clogged with the excessively long grass.

If I lived in the 'burbs, my neighbors would probably burn me in effigy except that they'd have anti-burning ordinaces prohibiting that sort of foolishness.

I just leave the bag off my mower and let the chunks land where they may. I leave miniature windrows of shredded grass behind me.

I'm so glad my neighborhood is pretty ghetto. No matter how godawful my lawn may be, there's at least one other that is worse. At least I don't have any old, rusted-n-busted cars in my yard, front or back.
