which_chickI am pleased to announce that I have 11 squares completed. (In the photo, one brown square looks slightly misshapen. Do not be alarmed, it is not actually wrong --it has not been blocked. Blocking will fix the issue.)

I also did some spinning, as I mentioned. Here is a picture of it attractively arranged in hanks which are completely useless for knitting in a two cat household. I am going to wind them into center pull cakes here directly.
If hanks are useless, why is the yarn in hanks? Did you do extra steps just for PICTURES?
1. No. But if I did, it is my life and I am allowed to spend my time however I like.
2. Hanks are 30 seconds away from how plied yarn is washed. It is not a lot of effort to make hanks.
Yarn comes off the spinning wheel bobbin as plied yarn by being wound onto a niddy-noddy, a tool that makes a big loop of yarn like... like winding your very long extension cord around your elbow and hand? Like that.
If you want to wash your freshly plied yarn, you tie off the big loop of yarn at the four cardinal points to avoid tangling. This makes it very easy to wash. After washing, I hang the hank to dry in my living room on the clothesline. (Do. Not. Ask. I am basically a bear with furniture and if I want a clothesline in my living room, I am allowed to have one.)
Once the yarn is dry, making it into a pretty, squishy hank is about thirty seconds. If you want to USE the yarn instead of squishing it or photographing it, you undo the ties and wind the yarn carefully into center pull cakes with your ball winder. I'm going to do that this evening, and then, time permitting, knit on my newly cast-on square (one of the mostly-brown kind).
