I have previously discussed Trivia Night at Claysburg, most recently in 2020 just before Covid-19 lockdowns, when we won. There wasn't any Trivia Night for 2021 or 2022, but THIS YEAR there was, once again, a Trivia Night at Claysburg.

This event is to support the fire department and it's set up with a turkey dinner and raffle tickets and a 50/50 and stuff. There are 21 teams (usually) of mostly-eight-players-each (we take a team of four: me, my aunt Jackie, my cousin Heather, and Brother-the-Younger Joe.) at twenty bucks a head. It's apparently a pretty darned decent moneymaker for the fire hall, not just for the ticket sales but also for the well-supported Small Games of Chance that happen as part of the trivia night festivities.

But, while we do play the small-games-of-chance to the tune of another twenty dollars above our tickets and while we DO eat the turkey dinner and the snacks, we are really there for the trivia. Given that Claysburg is basically Bum Fuck Egypt in Greater Rednecklandia, they do a damn fine evening of trivia and you'd better bring your A-game. We do.

People have fun names for their trivia teams. "Tequila Mockingbird" and "Intelligent Donkeys" and "The Brainy Bunch" and "Really Good Guessers" and "No More Rice Krispies" and "Dot & Merle's Kin" and "Here For The Turkey Dinner" and "Quizzards of Oz" and "Older but no Wiser" and of course we are Dead Parrots, as we have been ever since Joe tried to make us be "Lack Blithe Chatter" the one year and we haven't let him pick the name since.

Some of the teams have team shirts for this once-yearly trivia night thing. I mentioned last trivia that we should get some team shirts, so that we could be More Official, and my cousin Heather got on that and procured team shirts. She got them for the 2021 trivia year but they didn't have any trivia that year because Covid, so we saved them for the 2022 trivia year. And then there was no 2022 trivia. So the shirts kept on waiting for their time to shine. This year, though, we finally got to bust out the shirts. :)

On to the trivia questions, which are just fucking delightful.

4th place with 67 points: McGee/Malone
3rd place with 70 points: Lucky Guessers
2nd place with 75 points: Brainy Bunch
1st place with 81 points: Dead Parrots

Brainy Bunch had a really tough round 4, because they were beating us by one point prior to the last round. But yeah, we won. Yay!

And our shirts were awesome.

I took kit margaritas this year. Kit margaritas is... I premixed and bottled the good-quality anejo, cointreau, and simple in a "Two Margarita" batch size for ease of making. I also took along three whole limes (in case one was dry or unsatisfactory), a lime juicer, a paring knife, a container of demerara+salt for rims, a cocktail shaker, ice, a ziplock baggie for the used up lime hulls, and my own pint glass made of real glass. Basically I took everything someone might need to have absolutely lovely margaritas while out and about. The entire margarita kit fits into a small cooler such as you might use to schlep a six of domestic 12 oz cans around so it's not any worse than what other people brought to the table.

Claysburg Trivia Night provides a reasonable amount of domestic beer for attendees BUT ALSO they permit BYOB so that I can bring Kit Margaritas to the table, WHICH I DID. The demerara/salt rims were killer and premixing the non-fresh ingredients worked VERY WELL for simplifying at-the-table margarita assembly while still maintaining the delightfully fresh taste of just-squeezed limes. It was totally 100% worth it.

Did other people stare? Well, yeah. You're gonna have that when you show up to a fucking firehall dinner in Claysburg with a portable cocktail setup and proceed to do your thing. Hell, my own family eyerolled me and were, "What the ... oh. my. god. You brought SALT FOR THE RIM? I can't even... Where did you even GET a cocktail shaker?" However, the event is BYOB and the B I wanted to bring was Very Good Margaritas, so... yeah. Go ahead and eyeroll at me. I can't hear you over the taste of my FUCKING DELICIOUS MARGARITAS.
