Nice spin on Bird on Sunday. We did the covered bridge loop early to try to beat the heat with mixed success. There's a lot of heat and it gets up earlier than I do. *sigh*



Tried twice to cut the grass, was defeated by yellowjackets. Number of nests discovered: 5. Number of stings: 3. Amount of grass cut: a little more than half of it. (This is more than the normal number of yellowjacket nests in my yard for this time of year. It's apparently a good year for yellowjackets.)

New kitten (Squeaky Wheel is the name that has settled upon her) has mastered all House Cat skills and been promoted to big-cat litter boxes and free run of the house all the time. She sleeps on the bed with me and I have put the bathroom back in normal order.

I made carnitas (pork, plus pickled red onions plus corn tortillas plus salsa cruda, all made by me) for Saturday dinner for Lala and me. It was wonderfully delightful. I am getting better at corn tortillas from scratch, too, which is nice.

He's a happy hacker for his under-saddle "day off". Right now he gets Monday and Thursday completely off, but one of his weekend days is a somewhat restful hack of six to ten miles in which he just has to put one foot in front of the other in a marching walk. It's good for his muscles and his brain.

I only work Zolar 4 days a week, mostly because of my lack of spoons.

I've tried more than 4 days of "real" work a week and I can get about two weeks of that before Bird just gets... flat, slightly dull in expression, just not his best self. He likes his days off and his weekend hack and I like my boy with a bit of spring in his step and his happy face on.
