I keep seeing this picture on my feed.

You think differently? Okay, let's dive into the assertions of the picture.

Maybe the problem *is* Hearts Without God. Let us look at Japan, which is about half and half Shinto/Buddhist with only about 1.5% "Christian". Japan, which has a very large percentage of the population in the Hearts Without God category (the picture totally means "The Christian God"), has VIRTUALLY NO MASS SHOOTINGS. As well, India is about 80% Hindu and 14% Islamic and only about 2.3% "Christian" so they also have plenty of Hearts Without God and they also have VIRTUALLY NO MASS SHOOTINGS. I gotta ask...

Are we... are we... doing the wrong god?

Nah, that can't be right.

How about Homes Without Discipline? The Nordic countries are frequently seen as the land of the most "permissive" parenting. And yet they have way fewer mass shootings than the US. Are we doing discipline wrong? Shouldn't "more permissive" parenting countries have more shootings than we do? This doesn't make sense.

It's gotta be Schools Without Prayer. Countries that allow or require prayer in school include Greece, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and for some reason Australia. And they don't have mass shootings like the US does. Ooh, I think we're on to something. This COULD BE IT!!!

BUT... France, India, and Canada prohibit school prayer like the US does. And THEY don't have mass shootings like the US does.

Well, shit. Maybe school prayer doesn't have an impact on mass shootings. (Also, church and state are separated by the same constitution that allows 18 yr olds to buy AR-15s with which to shoot up grade school children so STFU about PRAYER IN SCHOOLS.)

Well, what we have left is Courtrooms Without Justice. Interestingly, I do think we sometimes have Courtrooms Without Justice, but that's because of stuff like... DeShaney vs. Winnebago and Town of Castle Rock vs. Gonzales, where the U. S. Supreme Court has ruled that police agencies are well within their rights to pick and choose when to intervene to protect the lives and property of others — even when a threat is apparent. Pretty sure that's why the cops just stood around outside Robb Elementary School in Texas for HALF AN HOUR or more with their thumbs up their asses as children died. So maybe we could do something about that, given that the fucking motto of the LAPD (and many other police departments) is To Protect and Serve.

But as to the efficacy of More Justice after the shooting's over and the smoke clears... about 45% of mass shooters (data from 2009 to 2020) die before they ever see the court system. About a third of all mass shooters suicide, the remainder are shot by police during the event. So only slightly more than half of all mass shooters even make it to the court system to be subject to the More Justice idea.

Also, wouldn't it be better to stop the mass shooters before they mass shoot? Like, before the bodies and the casings hit the floor? I am not sure More Justice is very good at preventing mass shootings. Places WITH death penalty and places WITHOUT death penalty both have lower mass shooting incidences than the US. The amount of Ultimate Justice dished out by a country doesn't seem to fucking matter in terms of mass shootings.

It's the guns, people. It's the guns.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I did, however, just hear an interesting take on the problem on the podcast < a href="https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5idXp6c3Byb3V0LmNvbS85NTI2NzIucnNz/episode/QnV6enNwcm91dC0xMDYzMzc2OQ?hl=en&ved=2ahUKEwjW9Jju3YP4AhVJmIQIHcrOCd8QieUEegQIAhAL&ep=6"> For people with Rob Wright. This episode is actually a response to the shootings in Buffalo, but at one point he rightfully points out that it's 99.99% young white men, then asks what is going on there.
