which_chickSo I live in a very rural, very conservative, very Redneck Republican, and (important) very poor part of the United States. In the Second Trump Election, Trump won the county with 86.28% of the votes cast.
My county has a public library. The public library asked the county commissioners for an additional $3000 in funding so that they could host an adult LGBTQ+ support group which, I have to say, any LGBTQ+ persons residing in this county probably could use just to see a friendly face once in a while.
The county commissioners said no. Not only did they say no, they were completely bigoted jerks about it. Commissioner Ulsch and Commissioner Bunch responded IN THEIR OWN WORDS and as reported by the county newspaper ON THE RECORD that the LGBTQ+ community is a hate group, in their opinion. What? Like... what? Asked to clarify, Commissioner Ulsh responded, "Do we want Muslims moving in to our county?" BUH? Dude is QUOTED as directly saying that IN THE NEWSPAPER. I don't understand how we got from funding for LGBTQ+ support group meeting space to bashing the Muslims, but yeah, that's totally not ok, asshole.
On November 11, someone started a gofundme for the $3000 in funding that the commissioners refused to give the library as a Fuck The Haters, Libraries are for EVERYONE move. (But without the swears because this is a very rural, conservative area.) The gofundme is currently sitting at $13,000+. I gave 'em a hundred bucks, myself.
Fuck the haters.
