Horse updates now that we have warm temps.

which_chickSuch nice weather this weekend led to some Horse Updates.
First off the not-so-good. Baby horse Patapsco has some sort of cold. She's got bilateral nasal discharge that is gross and she sounds wheezy but not chest-wheezy. Slight fever. This all came on in the last day or so. Vet has provided us with some shots which we are doing. Otherwise she seems perky as hell, bright and alert. Not coughing. Vet is coming out on Weds to ultrasound for pleural pneumonia which is basically a death sentence. But I don't think that's what is wrong. Anyway, that's the not-so-good news. Trys and I hit her with the vet's suggested drugs this evening and we'll see.
She has a surprising amount of white in her mane. I would really like to see her shed out in finished coat (not foal coat) but I worry that typing this out loud would be a death sentence. Still not over the kidney failure lepto thing.
Bird for a spin on Saturday, Genie for surcingle-n-lines driving practice (still in her ordinary open bridle b/c the driving one we have has dry-rotted to death and I should probably just pony up for a biothane one) and that was ok but not awesome. She needs more patience.
On Sunday, which was lovely weather, we took the boys (Bird and Tin) down to the covered bridge and up the less-steep hill to the stopsign. I have to start doing mileage with Bird, so it's time to drag the Not So Easyboots out of the bucket. Ugh.
I also took Genie out for patience practice with the draggable plastic jugs. We went for a walk out and about. That was fun. Plastic jugs (like ten of them) on a string, looped into my belt to drag along with me, plus Genie with standing still practice. She got a lot better at it, and at walking quietly beside the dragging jugs to boot. So, a win there. We'll revisit this more in the days to come, interspersed with surcingle-n-lines driving practices. (If I had any idea what I was doing... but I do not.)
