I took Bird for a spin today. The ground was muddy as hell because rain so we did walk-trot work, emphasis on position, on no-stirrup posting, on no-stirrup two point, on walk and trot haunches-in and shoulder-in and leg yield. Trys came along on Tinnie.
Afterward, seeing as how there was still daylight, I took Project Pony Genie out for a spin. It's been a while since I sat on her, but whatever. Anyway, Trys came along with her project horse (Snap) for company, just leading Snap along because she doesn't actually ride yet. Genie was kind of an ass, with assorted general nervousness supplemented by somewhat lackluster efforts at rearing and bucking (both of which I shut down promptly). Partly this is good because "more willing to try shit" means she is somewhat more comfortable with a rider aboard. But, partly it's also not good because honestly pony I just want you to walk and jog politely and not pull crap with my dumb middle-aged ass aboard you. I really should take Genie out for more outings more frequently but there's no damn daylight. I'll do what I can.

Date: 2019-01-10 07:01 pm (UTC)Bird: grey arabian gelding, unregistered, parrot-mouthed, will be 8 in the springtime. He's a dork but he's my dork.
Also he "identifies as brown" so* Most of the time he's covered in what we will euphemistically call "mud". Here is a sample pic of him when he's filthy:When he's cleaned up, though, he's almost white.
Tin is Bird's older brother. He looks about the same as Bird, only more grey-ish in the mane and tail. Tin also does not have a pink nose and he has the left front and right hind hoof in white, not black. Here they are the other weekend (Bird is on the left):
Patapsco is my baby horse. Here she is as a fresh baby:
At this point, she's six months old. Patapsco is a chestnut arabian filly out of my dead mare Nick. She (Patapsco) spent October being sick with leptospirosis but is currently doing well. Here she is a couple of days ago:
Youtube Link Of Baby Horse Video
Patapsco currently lives with Proof (the black mare in the video) for company. Baby horses need an adult horse around to help them learn to be proper horses. Usually this is the mom horse, but in Patapsco's case, we had to put Nick down when Patapsco was two and a half months old. A two and a half month foal can survive without her mom, but not without a role model of some sort. Proof's job is to be the role model.
Genie is a project pony that I'm starting under saddle. She's just temporary, until I get her reasonably rideable, but you will be seeing updates and stuff about her, too. Here's a pic:
And here are some pictures of my dead horse Nick. There won't, y'know, be updates on her (She's still dead. is not really what you might call an update-worthy state of affairs...) but it's nice to have some historical reference so that you can put a face to the name.
*This was not appropriate. I need to have a chat with myself about inappropriate humor and why it's no bueno. When I get done writing it, I'll link it here.
