La says that Callie jigged nonstop with Alice on the ride over at Spring's. I didn't see that, but maybe I wasn't looking. She also says that Callie jigged nonstop with Waylie over the weekend at the ride down at Lynn's. So now I have a used-to-be-fine little mare that never, ever offered to do crap like that that back when I rode her but now jigs all the time. :( I am going to have to fix this. Not, mind, that I'm desperate for opportunities to ride Callie, but she didn't used to do this before we loaned her out this summer. Loan horse out to kid, horse comes back with *issues*. Damn it. Where'd the flat walk go? Dunno. I will go looking for the flat walk.
I had a lovely outing today with Nick and Cass and Olivia, went out and played jumps. Nick was a trooper, the kids did well on their ponies. Our large jump is 2'4" and I feel pretty OK going over it with my horse. This is the second time I have done the 2'4" jump, went nicely. Nick is braver than I am.
I think I need some 2' jumps in series (with measuring and distances and such) so that I can gymnastic my way to a more solid position. I need a more solid position before I proceed to 2'6". Maybe by springtime? (How big is my horse supposed to be able to jump? She's a "large pony" so probably 2'9"...) Three feet seems to be a big dividing line between playing at jumps and actually going over jumps -- that'd be nice, really, but it's a lot bigger than I'm currently happy doing.
Horse still appears bright, forward, perky, and enthusiastic about jumps when we do jumps. I get the impression from her that she would be happy to do more. She actually *likes* jumps. La says she looks good going over jumps -- I've never seen her jump so can't say how she actually looks.
