The Absent Companion was here Monday night through this morning, after a long stint in Iraq. He's now home again, more or less. I took off work for the occasion of his return as we had rather planned a reunion involving a lengthy and marathonish sweaty bout of exercise-like activity. Turns out that really, I'm getting too old for that. *sigh*
The aforementioned marathonish sweaty exercise-like activity included numerous beer breaks, a shower, the movie Kick Ass, episode 2 of True Blood, the first episode of Colony, two hours of fixing Windows Vista (his laptop was borked by a fakie virus-removal program of the sort that keeps prompting you to register by way of routing all your web page requests through their proxy so that you have no internet until you remove the software manually or pay them.), breakfast, burned popcorn (my bad), dinner, dishwashing... and sleep. There were extensive breaks for sleep. WTF?
And then it came to me.
I'm old. There used to be a time when planned marathon bouts of sweaty exercise activity would not have included breaks like that. Now? Breakfast is important enough to stop for. So is beer. So is doing the dishes. Fixing the dude's computer ranks above another round *right now*. Yep. I'm old.
It was a horrifying revelation. Otherwise, had a lovely time. Would Do Again.
