Not particularly exciting for anyone but me, however, I have the following items of interest to report under Wine 1.0, which came out not horribly long ago.

Wine is the Windows Emulator. It used to sound like this: "Why isn't my [program name here] working?" Probably that's why they called it Wine.

Anyway, it's better now.

Irfanview: yes. Nicely, even. YAY! (I like irfanview. I do not so much love Gimp that I forgot about irfanview, which remains my first love for image processing.)

Jwpce also works beautifully. Yay!!

Jwpce is important because rewatching Hikaru has made me interested in slogging through more 星の館. I haven't looked at that stuff in ages, since before we sold the internet, so totally a blast from the past, there. I'm blaming it on Hikaru, but there is no way that the squeaky-clean and charming Hikaru story has thing one to do with Sumiya and Sakurai and all the rest of the crowd in that manga but for some reason, I am moved to revisit my limited grasp of written Japanese and the delights of picture-reading.

Happily, it's copiously illustrated, has fairly simple stories, and, thoughtfully, contains a lot of porn dialogue that I can actually read. (Culture varies from country to country, but porn dialogue is surprisingly cross-cultural.)

I should take notes so that I don't have to redo the damn things every time I renew interest. Yeah. That'd be a good idea.

Man, that's a blast from the past. Which is a silly thing to say about something I was following-along-with only a few years ago... especially when I have better things to moon slackly over, such as "OMG, I started college how many years ago now? Shinjirarenai yo!"

Yuck, the sentence structure is not with me tonight.

Amazingly, I haven't lost as much as I thought I would have.

I remember back around 2K1 and 2K2 when you would send me packets of manga that you had translation pages for. Those, and pocky. You sent me like 80,000 boxes of pocky once. This is easily why you're the best cousin in the entire world.

Also, OGOD NOT WINE. I remember playing with that on a friend's computer. I wanted to toss it, but I knew it wasn't mine.

Hey, I would still mail you things in translation (if I had anything to share besides the yaoi bondage porn) but there's such a huge commercial variety of stuff for sale with proper and readable English translations that there's hardly any point.

Haven't had any Pocky in since forever. I have to mail order it, living in Boondock Central like I do, and frankly little crispity sticks covered with chocolate are not something I need to be eating anyway. Stupid genetics. Stupid Hunt ass.

Mostly, I like my Ubuntu pretty well, but there are some things I've missed from Doze since I quit using it this spring. The new and improved Wine seems to run my two most-favored-applications without too much hassle. I'm kind of torn on Wine -- does using Windows applications in a Windows emulator make me a bad person? Dunno. I feel like a traitor or something, in a mild sort of way, like if I was a True Believer, I'd want to twink my pictures in Gimp and chain together three applications to be able to play with Japanese.

For a real long time, you couldn't get pocky around here because no one carried it. You could go to the Atlanta China Town and get some, but that was a major hassle for snacks. I was horribly surprised when I started to see pocky on the shelves of the wal-mart here. It's pretty expensive there, though, so I don't buy it too often(I don't really eat sweets much anyway, no sweet tooth).

Also, who knows. I can't really talk, while it's not exactly the same, I'm known for running videogame emulators on my computer. Hell, I've been doing that since I had the 60mhz powermac. Though I always felt like running emulators gives you a freedom you didn't have to start with. It's like, "hey, I wasn't supposed to be able to do this, but I can now, so hah!" Basically it's like telling the system to fuck itself for being so gosh-darn-temperamental.

"SO YOU'RE NOT GONNA RUN ON MY LINUX/OSX?! I'LL SHOW YOU!"
