Assorted updates.

I am not dead, lack of posting to the contrary. I've been busy.

The election, which nobody but my grandma really cares about, went fine. They took our machine and gave it to some other voting precinct, but other that that, it was not exciting. There was also a dead tractor trailer on the road on the way to the place-where-you-take-the-votes, and I guess that was an item of interest as well. I got a lot of sock knitting done during the election but the socks are not done yet. Oh, and the M branch of the family apparently jumped all over Dick's back about why JM was not on the fucking election ballot. Duh. If they'd read the rules, they would know that you had to get at least so many votes in the primary to be on the official ballot. I don't think we have enough *voters* to put someone on the official ballot even if everybody voted for 'em. Anyway, maybe they'll be happy. JM is now officially on the borough council. I'm sure that fame, riches, and happiness will be wending his way immediately.

Yesterday I drove dad's car back from the airport. Dad is safely on the way to Mexico. His messes have stayed behind for me. *sigh* At least it'll keep me busy.

It's cold out. I don't like cold.

About the thing you asked for... You don't have it because I didn't give it to you. It's like this... The original invite -- I went to see what you wanted. What you wanted was interesting enough to see if you wanted it again. When you didn't, it was interesting to see if/when you were going to tell me so. (That was particularly delightful to watch.) When you resolved that, I was done because the interesting was over. Hearing about the addition, which was interesting, was a freebie -- I was done actively watching for interesting by that point. Anyway, thank you for playing. It was fun and I had a good time, but I'm done now.

You know, having your extended family be essentially a municipality de jure has got to add all sorts of fun to interpersonal dynamics. The more I hear about it, the less I think it sounds like it's worth whatever autonomy from the local township gets you.

Oh, and did you get to work with paper ballots, or did they give you a replacement machine?

Our ballots are "fill in the dot for the candidate you want" and then they're machine-scored. The part they took away was the optical scanner thing. The box itself has an emergency backup system where you just shove your paper ballots into a slot and they just drop into the box. That's what we did when they took our scanner thing away. Usually, the machine prints out a tape of how many votes were for what and all, but since we were just stuffing the paper ballots in, there was no scoring. When we got to the county seat, they took our ballots out and ran them through an optical scanner to count the votes. They did this for us because we have like five plus three plus five... thirteen voters. Other townships and municipalities usually manage to turn out a hundred or two voters on non-presidential elections. (Primary turnouts are worse, unless it's a hotly contested thing like Pay Raise Bob a couple of years back.) I'm not lying on the "a hundred or two" thing. Here's a link (http://www.courthouseonline.com/elections/ElectionResults.asp?ElectionId=22) to the election results. If you click on the tab for "precinct" you can select us. We're the borough that is not McConnellsburg. Also, their write-in tallying sux0rs. We did elect two boro council and an auditor, even if they think we didn't.
