I took updated progress photos of the HoHI, which are over on flickr in case anyone's interested. There's not much to say about 'em except that I'm working the gusset decreases and heading toward the foot. I will probably not be done by the end of October because I just don't knit that fast.

Last night, I worked on my woodpile for an hour after work. I need to spend some time stacking, as the splitting is now ahead of the stacking to where I need to stack. *sigh* Thing is, I'm down to the ugly wood and it isn't going to stack well. It's just not as much fun to stack weird pieces of wood as it is to stack lovely, straight, nice pieces of wood.

While I was splitting wood, which is a lot like work, I paused to take a breath and appreciate the fresh air and sunshine and whatever. While I was pausing, a wild turkey ran across the road in front of my house at a good clip. I hadn't realized how quickly they could run. Also, wild turkeys are pretty damn sizeable birds.

You used to see flocks of Turkey around here, just sort of roaming around. This is before the town really started to grow out of proportion, of course. But they were always pretty neat to see driving to school in the fall. Unfortunately, even though it was illegal to shoot a firearm within city limits(much less hunt), people still managed to kill a lot of them. You don't see them that much around here anymore. If you go a little outside the town though, you tend to see them a bit.

I've noticed that too about turkeys and similar birds. Seems the ones that aren't too keen on flying have been equipped by nature to be very fast runners. Chickens are surprisingly fast as well. My family always had a flock of chickens growing up, and their speed always surprised me. You can catch a chicken, but it's not easy. I bet turkeys are much faster.

You need to take a deep breath and understand that you are going to burn the wood. That is not going to be fun for the wood. The least you can do is not be mad at it 'cause it's ugly.

Wood stacking

You do indeed have a marvelous and meticulously stacked pile of wood. My stack, containing many irregular sizes and shapes, and being stacked by my 3 and 6 year old minions, is a disaster in comparison. I have wood pile envy.
