First thing today, we took a field trip to Manns Choice to look at a building we might be financing. That was kind of fun -- it's a bank repo building, shot to hell, and suffering defiant tresspassers (probably junkies). Someone had the foresight to plumb it in pvc, which is not salable for drug money, or at least nowhere near as salable as copper, so it still has its plumbing. Anyway, we looked at it and were OK with financing (8.5%) the purchase of it, pending a clear title search and all. The realtor person wants "proof of financing" so we wrote the prospective buyer a letter. I don't reckon that real banks do much more than that and I am not handing out real money until there's been a title search. I am most certainly not handing over bank statements to "prove" that we have XX dollars in the bank. That's bullshit. Anyone with a photocopier can make it look like there are XX dollars in the bank, anyway.
After the field trip, I helped take down the last of the scaffolding for painting the office. The office is now all painted, or at least as all painted as it is going to get anytime soon. There are three third-floor windows and some soffit/eave that didn't get painted, but they are not highly visible from the street. The entire front of the building has been painted (high parts not-by-me). Then I primed the back porch at 219 and met the termite guy at the Terrace and told the lady in 17 that she could not have a puppy but could paint her bedroom some color other than off-white.
Following work, I went out to the village with Dad and put together conduit for his light-wiring project at the theater. That took until about 6 pm but went well enough. Anyway, I got home and had dinner and am updating you. There hasn't been any actual knitting yet today because I've been busy. I'm going to try to knock out a couple of rows here in a little bit, honest.
The HoHI are getting down far enough that "What do I want to do for the heel" is becoming a question rather less rhetorical and more immediately applicable. I'm not there yet, but I'm getting there. I'd like to have a plan BEFORE I get there. The primary difficulty is that the heel flap, as she is done by me, is constructed in flat (as opposed to round-n-round) knitting. It has purls. I do not know how to purl in stranded knitting. The internetwebmotron suggest that it is a complicated and somewhat difficult procedure. (The words don't try this at home were used.)
*sigh* I want it to look good. The socks so far look pretty good, for a first full-scale colorwork project. Somewhere along about the ankle bone (inside of foot), I will need to decide how to get from the leg pattern to the foot pattern. I'll also need a foot pattern. I'm thinking that I could keep the motif on the top of the foot and do stripes on the sides/bottom of the foot. Am not sure how the short-row heel thing will work with stripes. I expect we'll see, anyway.

Date: 2007-10-04 02:39 am (UTC)The panels started out like this: 6, 35, 6, 37, 6, 35, 6, 37
Now, they go like this: 6, 35, 6, 19, 6, 35, 6, 19
Due to the HoHI design, I am now doing 36 stitches fewer each round. Go me. I do not know that I will get to the point where JUST the 6/35/6 motif is left. I may need fewer stitches than that. I really have no idea, but when I get to the ankle, I'll be sure to let you know.
