The local Sheetz was out of the stuff for Raspberry Lipton again yesterday. I don't LIKE Raspberry Lipton, but it's a non-carbonated beverage choice that I can live with. Mostly, I fill up the cup with ice all the way and then use the Raspberry Lipton to fill in the spaces. And then I got to thinking...

Why doesn't Sheetz (a convenience-n-food store, like a 7-11 or a WaWa, kinda) sell regular water at the soda fountain? The fountain drinks are way cheaper than the bottled water. I don't have exact figures, but it's like fifty cents cheaper for 32 oz of fountain drink than it is for a 20-oz bottled water of the cheap variety like Aquafina. And you get ice with the fountain drinks. I don't want carbonated soda. I want water, really. Raspberry Lipton is the closest thing I can get to water at the fountain... but it doesn't have to be.

At Sheetz, they sell bottled soda and fountain soda both. That seems to be an okay thing. So why don't they sell fountain water along with the bottled water? It wouldn't cost very much to do. You might think that nobody would pay for water in a cup with ice in it, but heck, in the eighties, nobody thought folks would pay for water in a plastic bottle, either. The bottled water business is huge. Perhaps there is a huge market for fountain water-with-ice, too. Maybe nobody knows about it because nobody has ever tried.

I've sent them a suggestion. We shall see. (Just because Amazon.com didn't like my suggestion that you should be able to sign up for and auto-buy a manga series as and when it came out does not mean it wasn't a good idea.)

Take a look at the varieties. There should be a little tiny white square on one of the selections. That's water.

You should be able to get it there. No, it's not carbonated, or at least not around here it aint.

It's probably on the tea dispenser. It's generally on tea or lemonade - whichever one is non-carbonated. I always get water at fast food joints. They just give me a tiny cup so I can't make off with soda at the self-serve.

I don't know if it was policy or if I was ripping off my employers, but back when I was a drug dealer for the Armenians, we just told people to grab a styrofoam coffee cup & take it out of the water tap. The soda cups were inventoried, the coffee cups weren't.

Have I mentioned lately how little fun it is being a convenience store clerk? Writing tickets as a parking enforcement nazi was both a social and a moral step up.

I've looked. They have what you're talking about at the local BK soda fountain. I haven't seen one at the Sheetz fountain, but I shall look again.

I do not want a small cup like the 'courtesy cup' you get at McD's and BK when you ask for a cup for water. I want a hellish amount of water because usually I've been mowing grass all morning and I'm thirsty. Thirty-two ounces is a good start on the rehydration front.

I also don't much care if it's free or not. I just want the same great deal on water-with-ice-in-it that I can currently get on soda-with-ice-in-it.
