Hospital thing for wrist lump-removal is tomorrow at 11 AM. They said "afternoon" so I was kind of surprised that they called and told me 11 AM. That's not afternoon in my book. Anyway.

Dinner this evening was a box of strawberries with whipped cream.

The strawberries were fresh and smelled good at the grocery, so I bought them. They were from California, which means that they were likely picked by brown people who speak Spanish and/or shit in the fields. I'm okay with that. I washed the strawberries, capped their asses, and cut the surprisingly large ones in half.

The whipped cream was made by me out of liquid "heavy whipping cream" and some sugar and a wee bit of vanilla. I used a whisk to make the cream go from liquid to soft-peak (the level of fluffy that I like for eating-with-strawberries).

I took the strawberries (whole or halved) and used them to scoop out embarrassingly large amounts of whipped cream. The only saving grace in the whole procedure is that I was actually dressed when this took place. If I'd been naked, the entire thing would have been entirely too much to bear. So, y'know, house was like 55 degrees (It's chilly today. And dank.) and I was fully dressed.

While I was gorging on an entire box of strawberries and half a small thing of cream, whipped, I got to thinking about Strawberries-N-Cream. It seems to me that this is an ersatz flavor for (possibly) instant oatmeal. Now, real strawberries and real whipped cream, they're pretty damned good. Good enough that it's doubley sinful to be eating 'em naked. I wonder, sometimes, if the people eating instant oatmeal entitled "Berries N Cream" have ever eaten real strawberries with real whipped cream. I mean, if they did, how could they possibly eat that plastic-tasting shit and ever think it had anything to do with real strawberries and real whipped cream? Seems to me that the whole thing would be a spot of Entirely-Unlike-Tea.

Also, progress on the home-made raspberry mustard is progressing. Last night I soaked the mustard seeds (yellow and brown -- I'm practically Martha, here) in cider vinegar and a bit of water. Today I ground 'em up sort of coarsely in my not-for-coffee coffee grinder. Then I added the juice (no seeds or flesh) of black raspberries. I stirred. I tasted. An aside, here, for people who have never made their own mustard: Yo. Fresh mustard is quite hot. You might want to taste a smaller amount. Barely wet the knife, I mean. It's sincerely hot. I found this out the hard way. The internets say that if I let it on the counter for a day or so, the heat will mellow to a more tolerable level. That's the part of the process where I am now. I don't really know if it's raspberry enough or not, but it's hot enough that I'm not freaking tasting it again until it's had a chance to mellow.

Special for my mom:

Color Stranding may be of some help.

Rules:

1. If you are doing black and red, and you start with the red in your left hand, ALWAYS BE DOING THE RED WITH YOUR LEFT HAND. Do not switch it up. People will be able to tell if you do.

2. Do not be knitting tightly. The floats have to be loose and not under tension. Tension makes puckers. Puckers are ugly.

3. Avoid purling. It's messy.

Assuming that your person already knows how to knit either English (like you knit) or Continental (yarn goes in left hand and is "picked" by right needle), all he or she needs to learn is how to do the OTHER kind and then two-handed color work will go like gangbusters.

Since I had commented before stated that I eat instant oatmeal at work for breakfast, I will make the note that I do not eat anything in a box that is labeled "Berries N Cream." This includes both cereal and oatmeal. The closest I come to eating anything berry that is not an ACTUAL berry is the occasional blueberry Kellogg's cereal bar but even that has a limit to how many of them I can eat. I don't even eat things like strawberry ice cream....well, unless it is absolutely drenched in chocolate syrup to cover up the nastiness.
