I watched An Inconvenient Truth today. That'd be the Al Gore movie about global warming. It's depressing as all hell. I am somewhat shamed to admit that the depressingest part of it was the little computer-animated polar bear with the wee ice floe. Fuck, that was depressing.
I also happened to get my Social Security statement from the gummint today. That's the thing that lies to me about how there will be money for me to retire on. It, too, was depressing as all hell. I pay in, I won't be getting payouts. Bummer, that. It seems to me that the reports from the gov't are getting gloomier on that front, like they're trying to prep me to hear that I am not going to be getting social security. *sigh*
I also successfully resisted buying the fixins for Rice Krispie Treats at the grocery today because, really, if I'm going to do *that* with my marshmallows, I might as well just tape them to my ass -- saves time all around. And the NYT says Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. (Seriously. See here.) We eat too much. Things like, y'know, Rice Krispie Treats? They don't contain any actual point. Yeah, they taste good, but they're not good FOR you and they're probably not really food anyway. Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. I'm going to make more of an effort on that front.

Date: 2007-02-03 11:53 pm (UTC)It's a bit of an annoying message for me to hear, though, given that I'm currently frantically trying to figure out how to replace my fast easy calories that I snack on all day to support Peter's breastfeeding habit. I have to give up wheat (and eggs in addition to the milk and peanuts I don't eat). But I need stuff I can grab off the counter and eat while Peter is momentarily distracted in the other room.
This is problematic for the same reason why my dishes must be washed and ready to go: I am not at liberty to stop and wash dishes or cook food every time I need to eat something; the stuff I eat should be preparable one-handed!
