Bizarre. First DVD of Six Feet Under was covered in some kind of weird film cruft on the shiny side. It wouldn't play. It wouldn't recognise. It wouldn't do shit in the laptop or a PS/2. So, I washed it gently with warm water, a very small amount of Dawn dishwashing liquid, and my fingers. I patted it dry with a soft dishcloth. Now, it works.

First sock upgraded to with-elastic. Looks good. Second sock needs to be started here directly. Dead people make good knitting television.

Second sock fixed. As much as I liked these without elastic, I like them ten times as much with elastic. It's like viagra for socks. Construction worked great -- picked up loops off the top of the cuff as per gussets for sock knitting, knitted 'em down -- stretch differential wasn't a problem at all -- until the right length, sewed 'em to the cuff through the live loops and the backs of the cuff stitches. Looks good, socks stay up. It's delightful.
