I want one of these. Two would be even better. :) And, y'know, I can knit two handed colorwork. I can read a chart. Winter, in the immortal words of the Starks, is coming. There's a lot of dark and not a lot of horse time in the winter. I could use a good project and I have a great idea for how to do a better job on the side decrease pattern.

I was going to make a for-the-baby item or whatever, but given the stated objections (Cotton is heavy and gross! and She already HAS baby blankets [including a gorgeous, white, machine-washable satin one] so what on earth would she want with a sorry-ass effort from you?) on that front from the prospective grandmother, I think I might honestly be more interested in another pair (all ya'll remember the purple knee socks, right?) of really nifty socks for my own damn self.

Color poll. These will be two-color socks. I already have purple socks and do not really need another set of purple socks, so purple is out. I'd like a dark color and a light color. I'm thinking red (very red) for the dark color and white for the light color. Or maybe I would like navy? Or charcoal? I've decided on Lorna's Laces sock yarn because Mountain Colors does not apparently make solids. (Mountain Colors Bearfoot is my most favorite sock yarn and it is what the purple knee socks are made out of.) There's a color chart here. Make some suggestions. Solid colors only, of course. Pink is not allowed.

Oh, and the reason I need a new project is that I finished the felted bag for my mother, handles and all. It's been felted. It looks great. It feels great. I have matching leftover yarn that I think I might like to make into a felted hat for her but that would require math.

REd and white would look too festive and holiday-ish I think, unless that's what you're going for. CHarcoal and bright red would be pretty. Or charcoal and white.

I vote for charcoal and bright red because then it will look like you've been trampling the unbelievers with your hooves of iron, O Great Om.

Why solid colors only? Those "multicolored blends" are AWESOME. But if you really don't want one of that type, I'd go with Denim and Manzanita. Of course, I'm part of that 12% of males who are colorblind, so you probably shouldn't listen to me.

Unfortunately, the multicolored blends tend to totally screw up whatever colorwork you're doing with the actual pattern. Since the point of these socks is the colorwork, multicolored sock yarn is not really in the running.

It's more effective to use the multicolored yarn for plain socks and the plain yarn for fancy (stitch patterns or colorwork patterns) socks.

I love those socks!

Personally I'd go with purple, but since you already have them...how about a dark navy & cream? ("navy" and "natural" are side-by-side on that colour chart you linked...)
