I went to the jewelry thing yesterday. I bought a belt (for me) and a pair of earrings (for La for xmas). I determined which earrings she would like by the time-honored method of asking her if she would like them if I bought them for her... and then I told her I bought them so that she would not buy them. Nobody needs two pairs of xmastree earrings. For a pair of earrings (sterling) and a leather belt, how much would YOU pay? Seriously. How much? Tell me in the comments. I'll tell all ya'll how much I spent on Monday.

I took Trys over to SJ's to get her measured for linen pants. That's been an action item on my to-do list since we went to Amsterdam and I'm kind of happy to be able to check it off. Actually, I made Trys drive me to Bedford to pick up my car and we stopped in at SJ's on the way... but whatever. It worked out.

I picked up my car from the shop. The power steering stuff was still under warranty, so it got fix0red for free, except for the fucking hassle to get the car there and back. It works again and perhaps it will work for a while. One never knows.

After I picked up the car, I went to Heather's for a while and hung out with her and grandma until it was time to go to the walk-through-the-graveyard thing. While I was there, I worked on the annoying handles for the felted bag for my mother. They are about halfway done. (I hate knitting handles.) The walk through the graveyard thing was really kind of neat. Our docent (it was a guided walk) was my favorite bank lady, but she was dressed up in period costume so that it took me a while to figure out who she was. They lined the paths of the graveyard with little candle (real candles, not that fake electric shit that pisses me off) lanterns. Various people dressed up like assorted local historic figures and hung out in lawn chairs at their respective grave sites and told us about themselves as we passed by. (My dad was the person pretending to be the founder of the local newspaper. Small-town life has a fair amount of overlap in it, something that you get used to after a while.)

One of my ex-users was there. She was also my cousin Heather's ninth-grade English teacher for the first nine weeks until Heather went to Mercersburg Academy. (Again with the overlap.) Anyway, she invited me to join the local photography club. I am not sure that I am a photography club sort of person. I mean, I like my digital camera and I use it to take pictures of lots of things but I don't know as how I need a club for all of that. Maybe I should go to one and see what it's like. (Demented and sad, but social.) It might be educational and it doesn't conflict with horse functions or knitting or work or boat activities. It might also be helpful for learning how to take pictures of humans that don't look like ass. (All pictures of humans that I take look like ass. Real humans are a lot prettier than the pictures I take.) I'll have to keep an eye on the paper for when that is -- she said first Tuesday of the month.

For a pair of Christmas Tree earrings--they'd have to pay me. But if they were for someone else--okay $10 for the earrings (even for someone else, I can't imagine paying more than that for Christmas trees).

For a belt....well, it depends on what kind of belt. For something leather (real leather) with a nice buckle or other decoration up to maybe even $30. But it'd have to be pretty nice.

Yep, it's real leather, braided, with a nice buckle. I don't believe in killing naugas. :)

Okay, for braided leather with a nice buckle I'll go up to $35. :)

I'd love to see photos of your fresh scores.

My guess on prices is similar to Sara Merry's. About $35 for the belt, maybe up to $20 for the earrings, depending on how ornate and intricate they are.

I don't have pictures yet. This is order-and-it-comes-later stuff. *sigh*

I paid fifty cents for the leather belt I'm wearing. I've got another one I paid $4 for, new, but it doesn't fit me any more.

I'd never buy jewelry for my own person. For somebody else, maybe $20, but it would depend on what they asked for, I suppose.

That was why I didn't buy any for me. La wears earrings of seasonal goodness to her work, so I got her some that she didn't already have, having pre-vetted them with her.

As Trys pointed out later, you can't really accept an invitation to one of these things unless you're going to buy stuff. It's the polite thing to do. The sense of obligation, you see.

I love our language.
