Sep. 13th, 2004 08:48 amSaturday I drove out to Philly to help Sector R with his garage problem. The previous owner had stored a lot of boards and stuff (tires, door jacks, old doors, roll of wire) up in the rafters of the garage. Sector R did not want these things in his garage. I took my folding Gorilla ladder because he did not have a good ladder. *sigh* I really hate heights. A lot. Turns out I hate being bored a lot more. Standing around watching other people throw down boards was not particularly entertaining. Since it was my ladder, I commandeered it. When I clumb (It should be clumb. I know that "climbed" is the correct, sanctioned past tense, but doesn't "clumb" sound like it could well be right? I think it's more interesting.) up the ladder and started throwing things down, things either went faster or I was less bored. Either way, it was a win. After the garage effort, which went pretty smoothly, Sector R took us out for Mexican, which was quite tasty.
I got home from the Philly adventure at 2:00 am and went directly to bed.
Sunday morning, Liss called me at 7:00 am and told me to get my arse over there 'cause we were going out on horses. Er. I was pretty bleary. I'm getting a little old for the 2:00 am action, I think.
Food and coffee still work small miracles, though, so I fueled up and went out. I took Meat, Cass took Casper, Brittany rode her horse, and Melinda took her green four-year-old, Tahoe. Lala, Liss, Trys, Boo, and Corey were the second trailer load. La wound up on some dippy chestnut mare (not one of theirs, someone else's that needed to be ridden), Trys took Kova, Liss took Martini (who needs to GET OVER that whole not-loading thing), Boo rode Thistl, and Corey rode Hadossa, who is both ugly and stupid, traits redeemed only marginally by a general lack of evil intent.
I sunburned my face, but other than that, we had a good day. Meat and I got to pony Mariah, a horse Meat doesn't like, so that was very educational for all concerned. (Pony: While riding a horse, lead another one alongside. The horse being ponied can be ridered or riderless, doesn't matter.) We could have ponied Boo and Thistl, but that isn't particularly challenging and we've done it before. Thistl ponies like a champ and Meat gets along with her. There is not room for productive learning with Thistl and Boo. (Boo needs to be ponied because she isn't yet three years old and can't steer her own pony. For the record, her actual name is Olivia, lest the studio audience think I know people who would name a child Boo.) Mariah was riderless because she was a spare. We weren't sure how the unknown chestnut mare would do, so Mariah was along in case the unknown chestnut mare was unrideable. (Mariah isn't all that rideable, but at least she's a known quantity.)
I didn't get home from horse events until after 8 pm, so no cutting of the grass this weekend, either. It's getting semi-critical, here.
