Yesterday, coming home from "too hot to play horse" and with severe thunderstorms about half an hour away, I stopped at the top of the lane and watched probably two hundred Anax junius swarming. They are awesome and the largest dragonfly that people in my part of the world are likely to see. There is a larger critter (Anax longipes) but I've never seen one. Common green darner is about as big as you're likely to see without extra effort.

Anyway, I stood and watched them a good fifteen minutes. It was nifty -- they're very agile and will not run into you or anything.
