Peonies survived the frost event.
Apr. 22nd, 2026 07:41 amWe had a cold night (26F, -3.33C) on Monday night, so Tuesday morning things were a bit crispy. I was worried that the freeze might have killed the peony bushes (which are more than a foot tall, showing full sized leaves and flower bud nubbins) but they appear to have pulled through largely without damage. Go peonies.
My backhoe guy came down to see about fixing the leak in the water system. He dug up where we thought it was, but that turned out to be a leak in the other water system. My princess is in another castle. Well, dammit. Guess I'll have to work on that some more.
I got most of the white oak rounds split last night after work but I totally whiffed on a couple of pieces that now look more like pulled pork than firewood. Ooof. I mean, they'll still burn but they are not examples of quality deployment of the hydraulic splitter.
I tried some knitting but I got like four rows done and I was effing tired, so I made it an early night, which was apparently not the right plan because I woke up at like 2 AM and spent the rest of the night ... not sleeping, which kinda sucked.
Driving out the road this morning I saw a fox by the Angevine cabin, which was cool. I don't see foxes very often though I know they're around. (I do not mention seeing bunnies, groundhogs, squirrels, or deer because I'd just be spamming the shit out of you with those. Take it as read that I see that stuff all the time.)
I think I might be losing weight with this "do not eat any animal fat, do not eat any butter, cheese, or cream" plan. (Science suggests that while exercise is useful for people for a variety of reasons, it does not particularly drive weight loss. The thing that drives weight loss is putting the fucking fork down. It is excruciatingly difficult for humans to out-exercise the fork.) Initial results look sort of encouraging, though obviously I need like a three or four month timeline to verify for realsies. I'll report back at that time, though I am personally taking notes.
Doc office is going to call me for thyroid ultrasound once insurance approves thyroid ultrasound and same has been scheduled. I called yesterday to make sure that I wasn't dropping the ball from my end. #adulting
Apparently the thyroid thing is yet another slow moving project. I feel like my life is made of slow-moving projects. :)
Speaking of, here's the pothos of late:

That leaf is about 8" long and 5" wide. So fancy!
Still not at "final form"... Stay tuned.
